On October 7, 2026, We will unveil my latest collection at Hôtel Le Marois in Paris.
MIAMI / PARIS — On October 7, We return to Paris to present our latest collection at Hôtel Le Marois, marking a new chapter for René Mejía and a continued exploration of glamour, craftsmanship, and our relationship with what exists beyond Earth.
Paris has always held a particular significance for me. It is a city deeply connected to the history of fashion, textiles, art, and craftsmanship, but it is also a place where I find myself thinking about what comes next. For this collection, I wanted to bring those two ideas together: the history of how we dress and the possibility of how we may dress in the future.
The collection began with a woman. But she isn't dreaming about going to space. She already lives there.
She has a home beyond Earth, her own spacecraft, and a life in which traveling through space has become completely ordinary. One day, she receives an invitation to the most exclusive gala in space.
My question became very simple: What does she wear?
I didn't want to approach the future through the conventional language of science fiction. I wanted this woman to still feel connected to the codes that have always interested me as a designer: sculptural silhouettes, eveningwear, beautiful materials, precise construction, texture, and glamour yet creating a wardrobe that she can wear from day to night, pieces that can be mixed and matched for different occasions.
I began thinking about how the rituals of dressing might survive even as our environments completely change.
We may live somewhere else. We may travel differently. Our relationship with Earth may evolve. But I believe there will always be moments when we want to transform ourselves through what we wear.
One of the most important materials in this collection is black moiré.
I have always been fascinated by its texture and history with Haute Couture specially in Paris. There is something almost impossible to capture about moiré because its surface changes as it interacts with light. Its water-like pattern appears to move even when the fabric itself is still and it also reminds me of topographic maps which are used to explore vast landscapes.
For this collection, that movement began to remind me of something beyond Earth of gravitational distortion, distant landscapes, darkness, light, and the feeling of looking into something we don't completely understand.
I loved the idea of taking a fabric with so much history and placing it within a world that hasn't happened yet.
The Space Toile de Jouy
The collection also continues my exploration of Space Toile de Jouy, a textile that has become an important part of the visual language of René Mejía.
I was originally inspired by the French tradition of Toile de Jouy and its ability to tell stories through fabric. Instead of recreating the pastoral scenes traditionally associated with toile, I began imagining what those scenes might look like if they documented another era entirely.
Astronauts, spacecraft, satellites, celestial bodies and landscapes beyond Earth replace scenes of everyday terrestrial life.
There is something I find fascinating about that contradiction.
The past is being used to illustrate the future.
For the Paris collection, Space Toile exists alongside black moiré, pearls and sculptural silhouettes. Together, they create a conversation between past and future, Earth and space, tradition and possibility.
From Miami to Paris
Presenting this collection in Paris feels particularly meaningful to me.
René Mejía is a Miami-based label, and Miami continues to influence the way I see movement, glamour and the relationship between fashion and environments. Paris represents something different: history, tradition and generations of craftsmanship.
Bringing those worlds together has become part of my own identity as a designer.
With this collection, I am not trying to predict exactly what fashion will look like when humans eventually live beyond Earth.
I'm much more interested in imagining how we might feel when we get there.
What will we celebrate?
What will we consider beautiful?
What will luxury mean?
And when an invitation arrives for the most extraordinary evening somewhere beyond Earth what will we wear?
On October 7, 2026, I will begin answering that question in Paris.
